With exactly half the time left (30 more days) in my WAY WE FEEL CD Kickstarter campaign we remain far from the final goal. As each day passes it looks more and more likely that we will not reach that goal. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, but I also understand acutely many of the reasons this particular crowdfunding campaign isn't resonating. Some of the reasons include: General crowdfunding fatigue, less interest in CD projects in an era when fewer people actually use CDs, a $$ target goal that seems unusually high to some, poor economic times that are affecting people. There are probably even more reasons I've not listed.
At some point I am going to have to pull the plug on this one. The project simply can't work with a smaller budget without completely compromising the artistic vision of the project (to record a sonically and artistically cohesive album of Gordon Lightfoot songs by 14 amazing artists at the same world class recording studio). There are too many artists, engineers, designers, recording studios, etc that need to be paid, not to mention CD manufacturing and the costs associated with obtaining the rights to record all these songs (approx 20% of the budget must go to just these last 2).
Currently I'm allocating a disproportionate amount of time, energy and emotion into the project and the lack of success is starting to wear me down. I'm grateful to everyone who has supported the project so far, and also to all the artists who have agreed to be a part of the project, but I understand that sometimes big ideas are too unrealistic to fly. This project may just be one of those.
